San Luis Obispo County proudly offers the very finest wineries in California and the Central Coast. Explore the Paso Robles countryside with a self-guided winery tour, minutes from the Inn at Morro Bay.
From the parking lot at the Inn, go left through town and turn right on Main Street to US 1 north. Follow signs for Hwy 41 east to Atascadero. This drive takes you over a scenic area of rolling hills. Turn north on US 101 to Paso Robles, approximately 18 miles, and follow signs to 46 east toward Fresno and Bakersfield.
Take Hwy 46 east toward Fresno for eight miles. Look for Tobin James Winery on the right side of the highway. The tasting room is open 10-6 daily, and there's no fee for wine tasting. The gift shop, Old West atmosphere and 150-year-old wooden Brunswick bar alone make this a worthwhile trip.
Heading back toward Paso Robles for approximately one mile, look for Meridian Vineyards on the left side of the road. Open 10-5 daily, with a well-stocked gift shop and gourmet food items. Complimentary wine tasting. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the manicured grounds, in the shade of 200-year-old oaks.
Continuing back toward Paso Robles for 3.5 miles, you will find Eberle Winery on a knoll on the right side of the highway. The tasting room is open 10-5 daily from September to March, and from 10-6 daily from April to August. Wine tasting is free of charge, as are tours of the cave used as a wine cellar, offered every 30 minutes. Gift shop.
Leaving Eberle, turn right on Hwy 46 to Paso Robles. Buena Vista Drive is a right turn ½ mile from Paso Robles. The winery is on your left. The tasting room features award-winning Italian varietals and is open 10-5 Sunday-Thursday, 10-6 Friday & Saturday. You will enjoy the well-stocked gift shop with imported pottery and gift baskets. Wine tasting, $2 for four wines, refundable with wine purchase. Winery tours by appointment.
